    Welcome to North Shore

An eclectic and friendly hipster community with the best views in Maui.

Home to some of the largest swells in the world, North Shore Maui affords wide open ocean views, lush green spaces and tropical forests, and dozens of fun outdoor recreation opportunities. There are no clear boundaries as to where North Shore begins and ends: the area blends with Central Maui, Upcountry, and the Hana Highway, making this location an abundant place to live and work.

    What to Love

    • Sense of community spirit and diverse population
    • "Jaws" Surf Break for seasoned surfers and surfer enthusiasts
    • World-class dining opportunities, especially Mama’s Fish House

    Local Lifestyle

Residents of North Shore are eclectic, diverse, and full of aloha — the spirit of Hawaii. The area is home to many celebrities and has the most diverse population on the island with its bohemian hipster vibe. Residents enjoy luxury amenities from the central location of North Shore but experience a small-town vibe with a slower-paced way of life. The area is made up of the neighborhoods of Paia, Spreckelsville, and Haiku and is known for its awesome waves. North Shore boasts the best spots for surfing, kitesurfing, and swimming.

    Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Floyd and Doris Christensen sailed to the Hawaiian Islands in 1960 from San Diego on a sailboat with no modern amenities. They used sextants and the sun for navigation, and Doris would cook a hot meal each day in their tiny, two-burner stove kitchen. After an adventure of a lifetime and stops in Tai O’Hai, Tahiti, Tonga, and New Zealand, the Christensen family purchased the property in Paia to start Mama’s Fish House in 1973. It was an experience Floyd and Doris will never forget, and they hope dining at Mama’s is an experience their customers will also never forget. The restaurant is typically booked months in advance and serves rotating lunch and dinner menus featuring local ingredients prepared by famous chefs, unique cocktails, and incredible desserts.

Paia Fish Market Restaurant brings “fresh fish with aloha” to the residents of North Shore. Owners Moonstar Greene and Yuri Soledade support local fishermen and depend on their daily catches to offer the freshest selections at the restaurant. They offer an extensive menu featuring fresh salmon, Mahi Mahi, ono, snapper, and opah dishes. Another casual dining option is Tobi’s Maui Hawaiian Shave Ice & Poke, a North Shore favorite since 1992. Create your own poke bowl or choose from dozens of their creations. Tobi’s offers the freshest poke bowls around, along with large acai bowls and the traditional Hawaiian shave ice.

Shopping in Paia is a wonderful — and busy — experience. There are so many unique shops to explore, ranging from high-end outlets to cute Hawaiian boutiques. Heart in Paia is an adorable gift shop offering handmade jewelry, art, and gifts, Solely Aloha is a family-owned business providing fashion accessories with hand-printed logos unique to Hawaii, and Wings Hawaii sells delicately crafted jewelry, home goods, and clothing for “real-life mermaids.”

    Things To Do

North Shore offers dozens of undeveloped beaches and world-class surfing opportunities. One of the top locations for ocean views and water recreation, Hookipa Beach Park is located on Hana Highway by mile marker #9 and features some of the best waves on the Maui coast. It's been a haven for surfers since the ‘30s and a favorite spot for local events and parties. Another location, Baldwin Beach Park, is a long, wide beach featuring barbeque spots, picnic tables, lifeguards, and bathrooms. This particular stretch of beach is popular for families and experienced boogie boarders.

La’akea Village empowers people of all ages and abilities to live life to the fullest and reach their highest potential. Established in 2010 as a nonprofit organization, the La’akea Village focuses on building community for youth and adults with special needs and provides opportunities for team building, real work experience, and hands-on learning. Members of the Village community work together to work in and maintain the farm store, where they offer local produce at farmers’ markets, handmade gifts, and delicious food to the Maui community. The farm also offers yoga, Easter Egg hunts in the spring, and dance parties.
